This Moscow themed plaque was part of a much larger project wanted by the Russell Cotes Art Gallery and Museum to celebrate and commemorate many of the countries the Russel Cotes visited during their life times. When I was given Moscow, I was a little unsure how to proceed given the current political climate surrounding the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, so I decided to avoid politics completely and focus on the culture and people of Moscow. The plaque itself was originally sculpted in Plaxton, then moulded in silicone and plaster to make a jacket-mould. Once the mould was ready, a layer of bronze powder followed by Jesmonite was used to cast the plaque. Finally, the surface was polished to create a metallic effect.
